We woke up early on Monday morning. John got up at the crack of dawn for a flight to Medellin for a business meeting with clients. The boys and I got up around 6:30AM and had a leisurely morning before a phone call with a Colombian contact recommended by the historian, Kris Lane. We had only planned to visit the Botero Museum but upon the contact's recommendation, we quickly arranged for a day trip to Zipaquirá to tour the underground salt cathedral. Fortunately we got an early start to the day so we were able to do both activities.
After deciding upon our plans for the day, we withdrew money from an ATM and promptly called for an Uber car to take us on the 1 hour drive to Zipaquirá. Upon arrival, we immediately joined a tour of the salt cathedral. To get there, we had to walk 200 meters underground. My photos do not do justice to the place. It was bizarre, eerie, and amazing.

After the Salt Cathedral, we returned to our Uber driver who took us back to Bogotá and across town to the Botero Museum. In planning a visit to Colombia, seeing the Botero Museum was high on my list. Fernando Botero has a unique and noticeable style in paintings and sculptures - mainly that everything (people, fruit, and animals are very voluptuous). I really like his style, too.
The boys insisted that they didn't need their jackets today, and they suffered the consequences. The weather in Bogotá can be confusing. It never gets too hot or too cold but you can end up wearing shorts and a sweatshirt in the same day. Today was a cold and rainy day in Bogotá. B had to warm up with his hoodie and my scarf.
What a wonderful museum! I wish I had had more time to spend with the artwork. Unfortunately B's tummy bothered him and the boys were tired. We took a walk in this quaint, old part of town that is so different than the modern Zona G neighborhood where we were staying. The we headed home (again by Uber) and made some pasta with spaghetti sauce and vegetables for dinner.
