We spent our second day at the falls on the Argentine side. It has the reputation of being better than the Brazilian side but in our opinion, they both have their pluses and minuses. In his journal, F wrote: “The Brazilian cataratas are nicer than the Argentine ones. I think it is mostly because of the panoramic view. The Brazilian side is also more compact so you don’t have to walk so far. You can take a free sightseeing bus through the forest to get to the falls. The bus also does return trips. There is a very fancy hotel called Hotel Del Cataratas (AKA The Pink Hotel) that is conveniently located at the bus stop. These things make the Brazilian side nicer than the Argentine.”
Our first activity in the park was to take a nature walk to a small waterfall. The morning is supposed to be the time when you can see wild animals. We saw toucans, monkeys, carpinchos, coatis, and some other animal. On the walk to the waterfall we didn’t see anyone, but on the way back we passed a lot of people.

After the nature hike, we walked on the lower pathway that went next to and under some waterfalls.
After the low path, we stopped for a snack. When we got our food, we were mobbed by the coati. They are cute animals but they are very aggressive! They can also be dangerous. There were signs everywhere that the coati bite. After our snack, we took the upper pathway that goes above the falls.
After the upper falls, we took a train to see the Garganta del Diablo (the Devil’s Throat) waterfall – the highlight of the Argentine side. Before starting on the walkway, the boys and I had ice cream bars.
We spent a second night in Puerto Iguazu and in the morning we caught a flight back to Buenos Aires. Because of the discount that children receive, their airline ticket cost the same as the coche cama bus ticket to Posadas. It was nice to take a short flight back to Buenos Aires.
Unfortunately, I left my I-phone 5 in the bathroom at Aeroparque and I lost almost all of the photos I had taken during our trip. Of course, we never saw the phone again. When I returned to the airport and spoke to the policewoman in charge of lost & found items, she basically laughed at me. She said that nobody would turn in an I-Phone. They are almost impossible to get in Argentina. Most people use Android phones and the nice smart phones are extremely expensive. For example, there are full page adds for the Galaxy Note 4 at a price of 16,000 pesos – that’s over $1,000. In the United States, the Galaxy Note 4 was recently replaced by the Galaxy Note 5 and a Galaxy Note 4 phone can be purchased for $100 at Target.
We returned to Buenos Aires on a Thursday afternoon. We had rented a lovely apartment for 4 nights because the apartment that we wanted was not available until Monday. Instead of relaxing, I was stressed about the lost phone and trying to make sure that we didn’t have any bedbugs or bedbug eggs. We kept all of the luggage from our trip in one place and made the kids strip and take showers before they could explore the apartment. Fortunately, a Laundromat was located about 3 buildings from ours so I took several loads of laundry to be washed and dried at the highest heat possible while I also washed clothing on high heat in our apartment. When we picked up our luggage from Ingrid’s aunt’s apartment, we carefully kept it separated. I spent the whole weekend washing clothes and everything else from our trip (including the luggage). I’m glad to report that 2+ weeks later we do not see any signs of bedbugs.
